Getting around the city
Streets in Pompeii nowadays are similar to other streets, with roads and pavements. People can travel by taxi- you have to use a taxi stand or call them in advance, they are metered taxis, bus and tram- they travel from Naples to Pompeii, car- not advisable as traffic is bad, motorcycle and train- the Circumvesuviana train, it travels to Pompeii and Herculaneum. It costs €2.30 for the 40 minutes journey from Naples and €1.80 for the 30 minutes journey from Sorrento. A bus company is SITA, also €2.30 for the 40 minutes journey from Naples and €1.80 for the 1 hour journey from Salerno. Public transport is the preferred mode of transport in Pompeii. There are car-parks along the way from Naples which cost around €4 every hour.
